Dr Chris Sexton is a highly experienced Obstetrician, working in the field for over 20 years. His goal is to work with you and your partner to achieve the happiest and safest outcome possible.

Since commencing private practice in 2002 he has had the joy and privilege of helping several thousand couples realise their dream of having children. He has extensive experience in both normal and high-risk pregnancies including those where there may be complex maternal medical issues. Dr Sexton is very happy to work in conjunction with a patient’s previous medical or surgical specialist as required and works with an established network of health professionals including physiotherapists, diabetic educators and psychologists who assist in providing his patients with the very best of care.

Dr Sexton's services include

  • Fertility and pre-pregnancy counselling

  • Management of antenatal care and delivery

  • Postnatal management and care

Your initial consultation will be at 8 – 10 weeks, which will include an ultrasound scan of your pregnancy.  Subsequent visits will be tailored to your needs and will allow couples time to ask questions and resolve any issues.  Dr Sexton and his staff always endeavour to make time for any patient who requires an extra visit during the day if unforeseen circumstances arise.  Your partner and other children are welcome to attend any or all visits.

Dr Sexton specialises in all forms of delivery, including vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC) and the delivery of twins, and has delivered babies anywhere from the back seat of a car to the operating theatre as required.  Student midwives are very welcome to attend your visits if you wish.

Dr Sexton is committed to continuity of care and his practice is not a group practice. He remains on call throughout the week and most weekends. He is fortunate to share cover with his colleague Dr Darren Roberts who works in the same consulting rooms. This enables couples to meet Dr Roberts if required and they can be assured that they will be covered by someone who shares the same philosophy and experience.  Dr Sexton understands the pregnancy and delivery can be a nervous experience for some couples and so strives to make yours as calm and enjoyable as possible.

Following your delivery, Dr Sexton will visit daily while you are in hospital. The hospitals at which Dr Sexton delivers allow a length of stay that allow mothers to get some rest and take the time to establish feeding before discharge. All hospitals provide antenatal classes, in-hopital physiotherapists, lactation consultants and have a postnatal midwifery unit, all of whom assist Dr Sexton in providing the highest level of postnatal care.

Occasionally a couple may have had a difficult or distressing time with a previous delivery and be approaching a second pregnancy with a degree of trepidation. Dr Sexton would be very happy to provide a second opinion as to how a subsequent pregnancy may be managed to achieve a more harmonious outcome.

Should your pregnancy become more high risk Dr Sexton will continue to mange you at the Women's and Children's Hospital where he is currently a Senior Visiting Consultant in Obstetrics.
